COVER YOUR SHAME!!!

Image
What’s this talk I hear about nakedness? Why do we treat a gift like an abomination? What’s this talk I hear about nakedness? It’s our mind we need to fix   In the beginning, “they” were naked Adam and eve In that same beginning They had communion (fellowship) with the father, NAKED   Then the serpent came And their eyes opened But they weren’t blind before So let me rephrase Their mind opened And they sought to cover up They saw nakedness as something shameful Even God wasn’t pleased That’s why he asked “Who told you you’re naked?” So you see this talk about nakedness? It’s our mind we need to fix   I hear your thoughts “Times have changed, this is a new age” That’s true but Yesterday, a child was born, naked I could see the joy in your faces All you saw was a child in her purest form, NAKED   Until you covered her up Cos’ cold and other external harmful factors Three months down the line One uncle trie...

PERKS ON LIVING ALONE 2

Now that you must have gathered the akpobi (courage) to live alone, how can you make the best of it? Make rules. You know how frustrating it was to live by other people’s rules? Now I’m here telling you to make rules. I must be a killjoy right? But here’s the thing about rules. Rules are made not out of spite for the ruled or because some people are just control freaks, rules are made for the sake of order, to avoid chaos. So, make your own rules. Make them so that you don’t run wild and ruin your life and abuse your newly acquired freedom. These rules will emanate from your core values. This means you have to ask yourself serious questions Do some soul searching What are my core values? What is the kind of life I would like to lead/live? What is of importance to me? What are my boundaries?   When you get those answers, you can use them as a guide to setting ground rules for your house/self For someone like me that dislikes night hangouts, is introv...

THE WOMAN I AM BECOMING????

Image
Nice pictures don’t make you a beautiful person Trendy clothes don’t make you an important person They are nothing but candy to the eyes It is the way you have affected (positive) a soul that makes you beautiful They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder Who is the beholder? The person who has benefited off your love and influence in their lives I see a lot of “I love the woman I’m becoming” posts on the media Accompanied by amazing digital photographs Hey! Stop there!   This isn’t about the female gender But let me ask. This woman you are becoming Is she the one that now (whether she can afford it or not) wears makeup, trendy clothes, accessories to match and money to do a photo shoot? And is that all she is? News flash! Anyone can do and be that Even the bible says, let our adorning not be in the wearing of jewelries and expensive cloths but in the quality of our heart, our spirit, our character. This translates to, “It is not the ou...

THE SPACE BETWEEN BIRTH AND DEATH

Image
Two things we have absolutely no control over The same things that bring JOY and SADNESS BIRTH and DEATH                          BIRTH  A child never asked to be born Only an application from both parents is sent With a probability of acceptance or rejection And a thanks in anticipation                        DEATH  A man never really asks or expects to die He may play a part that leads to his demise But it truly never is in his hands This phenomenon is activated or controlled by GOD/NATURE/THE UNSEEN SUPREME FORCE You open your eyes one day to life on earth You close your eyes another day to oblivion However, there is something we have control over The space between BIRTH and DEATH Let’s focus on this thing we can control So when DEATH comes in its usual way, you wouldn’t feel cheated   Because y...

I CAUGHT THE VIRUS

Image
So I went for the test. The HIV test I mean. I hadn’t been tested in over two years so I decided to visit UPTH and get it done. Like I mentioned in one of the episodes on SIT, most people have a long list of reasons why it is not necessary to do a test including not having the virus. But here are a few things I learnt from going to get tested. The procedure for testing is in four stages: Pre-test counseling The test The result  Post-test counseling The overall takes not more than 20 minutes. No matter how confident you are of you're status, a few seconds before the session, you're likely to get goose bumps  Just look at me  Extra tip: go with a friend if you’re scared and please be honest with the health personnel. During the pre-test counseling, I was asked personal, intimate and embarrassing questions. But I had to be honest. And the session helped me know my wrong practices and resolve to do better. A few of the questions I can remembe...

THE IMPERFECT ONES

Image
They are the keepers, The ride-and-dies, They are the ones with the bad habits and lingering weakness, The ones that will have many fall-outs with you but still stay till the end. I always say, if I’ve never had a fight with you then I don’t consider you my real friend. (Fight as in, serious argument or disagreement or contrasting views and thought pattern about a subject) You know what makes these ones special? Their imperfectness has opened their eyes to the imperfection that lies in every one and the understanding that our imperfections don’t render us invalids but makes us beautiful and friendship is about covering up for the weaknesses of each other and learning to live together through it all. They know forgiveness. They understand the meaning of friendship. They will always show up for you somehow. Those are the ones you should keep in your life. They have gone through multiple midlife-crises at just age 35. They have made very bad choices. Th...

The Oil is Working

It usually irks me whenever I see or hear the “God When” phrase. What are you God whening for? Do you know what those people did, endured, sacrificed, to get there? Would you be ready to do the same? Or you would rather keep asking God when your package will fall on your lap? Ordinary to walk on the road with a smile, you cannot. And you want wife. SMH This used to be me but yesterday, how art the mighty fallen; I was the one using the phrase endlessly. So my friends and I were driving to a spot to chill when the gist started on how God has been moving on their behalves. Let’s call my friends Precious and Enigma We all didn’t have cash and were thinking of a POS spot so we don’t go through the huddles of going to an ATM that night when Enigma mentioned that she came out with her Bobo’s ATM CARD and not hers because Bobo said you can use the money inside. Enigma asked how much, Bobo said any amount but don’t just finish it. Ah! We were in shock and asked her the secr...

WHAT LIES AHEAD

Image
As of many decades to come So has 2020 Filled with expectations of the best year yet Everyone projecting and professing What lies ahead Forgetting that yesterday was once TODAY And tomorrow will soon be TODAY So today is what we should focus on Make TODAY, this minute count Because what lies ahead is TODAY

Attending a Festival ALONE? How much fun is that?

Not every time, “Honey take me out na, let’s go for that festival.” “Baby, when last did you take me out?” or Girls’ trip! Boys’ trip! Sometimes take yourself out; go out alone. Reasons why;   It affords you the liberty of doing what you want to do without considering another person’s idiosyncrasies. You’ll have the opportunity to meet new people and spontaneously try new things. It gives you the chance to be independent and enjoy your own company. It’s like walking into a strange beautiful room with blindfolds on….not a dangerous room biko…. there are possibilities of the unexpected which is what life is generally about. It would teach you to stand on your own and be comfortable with your decision and watch the outcomes unfold. This is not really just about a festival. It’s about your life. It can be therapeutic. Can help you find yourself too, in case you are the type that is easily knowingly or unknowingly influenced by your surrounding (friend...

Tips on how to ACTUALLY go on that Trip

Firstofust, let’s talk about why you need that trip. The bible says meat is made for the body not vice versa. What does this mean? You are not here to serve life but here for life to serve you so stop working like a donkey and take that relaxation trip already. “drops mic” “Picks mic back up” For those that really truly want to vacation this year, here’s how First off, are you going alone or with your crew? Go alone if you don’t have crew. If you have crew, hope it’s the crew that you can be yourself with and not the one that y’all are struggling to impress the other. Secondly, what are your incomes like? Don’t go and cut your neck or do unscrupulous things because you must travel to Santorini Island this year. Advice for free; don’t save more than 20% of your monthly income for this proposed trip. Based on the above, choose a destination Let’s assume we are choosing Cape Verde, since that’s the trending vacation spot and it doesn’t require a visa to visit. Give...

Look Who's Back

Image
Hello guys, First of all, lemme apologize for not blogging in almost a year or more. It's not like I totally stopped writing but I have been doing so on a different platform plus a lot has happened since my last time here.....I wish I could share it all but I wouldn't want to bore you guys with my life issues. Nevertheless I'll be sharing subsequently in bits and pieces, afterall, this blog is about stories. While I was away, I started a series called "Stories In Transit" (SIT) on my whatsapp stories where I wrote about funny experiences I encountered while travelling. I'll be moving the series here for legacy sake and to humor you of course. I also finally published my first book on okadabooks online bookstore, so go check it out please. On to the business for today; I'll be sharing my December experience aka "DETTY DECEMBER". It was a very "detty" one indeed. It started off with me and my girls planning a getaway together which di...

While waiting.. .......

Image
Have you ever been stuck in traffic on your way to work, a meet-up, an event, etc?? If you are a Lagosian, then that's not even a question. OK, let me try again Have you ever been the one on the waiting end, for the person stuck somewhere?  Maybe waiting  in the boardroom or a restaurant or even by the sidewalks?? Let's take it a little further Have you ever waited patiently to finally meet the right guy, "your one" ?                                 OR Waited for the shortlisted names from that exam you took ? Or even as unserious as waited for the beans to get cooked? Have you ever waited for anything at all in your life? The real question here is, while waiting, what do you do? Does life pause just in anticipation of your desired outcome or maybe even a disappointment? Do you just sit and fuss worry and whine count the seconds as the clock ticks away gain pounds from stress e...

Of Saturdays and Tales and Proposals

Image
He took me out to dinner at this fancy restaurant I've always wanted to visit. While eating, he talked excitedly and passionately about the contract he just finally got signed unto.  I could feel the ecstasy even though I was just a listener. It was as though I got the contract too. Just after we ordered for desert, he handed me a shopping voucher worth five zeros for Christmas. There was an awkward silence as I stared at the piece of paper in my hand with a smirk on my face. He asked me why I wasn't excited about it, that I deserved it because I was patient with him through the lowest of times. Thoughts ran through my head while he spoke words I couldn't hear. He never noticed the eye bags sitting beneath my lids or the fact that my collar bones were more visible. He never asked about my presentation at work or if my mini-surgery was successful. He was even surprised about the scar on my arm and asked what had happened there. Now he hands me a voucher and expects me ...

Just humans! Infact, only humans!

We are all first humans  before we are any other thing; men, women, men with fragile ego, women with rights, adults with uncommon sexual attractions towards the same-sex or opposite-sex who may be majors or minors, Christians,  Muslims, Buddhist, traditionalist, aethists, black, white, mixed race, Igbos, Yorubas, and the other tribes too minor to be considered for developmental opportunities We were all just humans before some of us decided to create rules that segregate and blame it on nature We were all just humans before nature decided some genes should carry darker shades than others We were all just humans before some of us got tired and decided to fight for recognition, to be heard,  not to be the underling at least and at most to be equal, just humans but then ended up fighting for more; to be the major (making them exactly what they fought against) It is the human nature that made us whoever we are acting out to be, not the sects and classes but th...
