WHAT DO YOU REALLY WANT?

Image
When you want something and ask for it from the universe, the universe gives it to you alongside a distraction. The universe does this to be assured of what you truly want. The first time I heard those words (paraphrased) were from the delectable female rap artist and poet, Eva Alordiah. I was still ruminating on those words and trying to question the school of thought when it happened to me, two days after. A friend who I just met and who was also my editor at the moment sent me an invite to a literary event; a book review. There were going to be a lot of amazing writers and a guest speaker who was a renowned author. It was his book that was to be reviewed. I had just moved into the city and had dedicated that period of my life to writing seriously. I wanted to meet people in my niche and interact with them, you know, you city, new friends. I wanted that fresh air and vibe for a story I was yet to complete. I had always longed to be in that kind of space. So, getting an invite f...

PERKS ON LIVING ALONE 2

Now that you must have gathered the akpobi (courage) to live alone, how can you make the best of it? Make rules. You know how frustrating it was to live by other people’s rules? Now I’m here telling you to make rules. I must be a killjoy right? But here’s the thing about rules. Rules are made not out of spite for the ruled or because some people are just control freaks, rules are made for the sake of order, to avoid chaos. So, make your own rules. Make them so that you don’t run wild and ruin your life and abuse your newly acquired freedom. These rules will emanate from your core values. This means you have to ask yourself serious questions Do some soul searching What are my core values? What is the kind of life I would like to lead/live? What is of importance to me? What are my boundaries?   When you get those answers, you can use them as a guide to setting ground rules for your house/self For someone like me that dislikes night hangouts, is introv...

PERKS OF LIVING ALONE 1

Hello guys Welcome to my first controversial read This topic is really close to my heart. Hence I decided to share it with you, my people Here it goes… The typical Nigerian way is for a child to grow up in his or her parent’s house and remain there until he or she happens to get married or move to another city for a job in spite of the child’s age. This is like an unwritten rule in the average Nigerian parent’s book. However this rule is lenient when it comes to the male child. He has some sort of points that can excuse him from this rule such as; “He’s a man” “He needs to start building his family” “He can’t get married in my parent’s house” Etc But, for the woman, it is unheard of. In fact, it is an abomination for her to leave her father’s house to her own house. “Why should she want to live alone?” “She is promiscuous to want that”. “Is she a prostitute?” “Does she want men to run away from her?” “There is no respect when a woman doesn’t marry from h...

WAS IT INTENTIONAL?

Image
Intentional: deliberate, voluntary, done with intent (purpose) I’ll write you two stories if time permits and then we will discuss STORY1 Once upon a time, there lived a poor orphan girl who stayed with her uncle in a foreign land. She lived a pretty humble and obedient life even in the midst of want. She had no definite plans for her future asides the normal everyday life of wake up, do chores and go to bed. She didn’t even have friends and everything was fine with her. But her uncle on the other hand wanted better for her. Maybe because of the bond he shared with her late parents. He wanted to see her shine in the nearest future and would do anything to make that happen. Then time and chance happened. The wicked king divorced and banished his wife just because she wouldn’t agree to dance for him and his drunken friends. The king was a drunk and foolish man. This I say because he always took wrong advice from his loser friends and ran with it to the end no matter how disas...

THE WOMAN I AM BECOMING????

Image
Nice pictures don’t make you a beautiful person Trendy clothes don’t make you an important person They are nothing but candy to the eyes It is the way you have affected (positive) a soul that makes you beautiful They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder Who is the beholder? The person who has benefited off your love and influence in their lives I see a lot of “I love the woman I’m becoming” posts on the media Accompanied by amazing digital photographs Hey! Stop there!   This isn’t about the female gender But let me ask. This woman you are becoming Is she the one that now (whether she can afford it or not) wears makeup, trendy clothes, accessories to match and money to do a photo shoot? And is that all she is? News flash! Anyone can do and be that Even the bible says, let our adorning not be in the wearing of jewelries and expensive cloths but in the quality of our heart, our spirit, our character. This translates to, “It is not the ou...

SIT SIT....STORIES IN TRANSIT....STAND IN TRUTH

Welcome to another episode of Stories In Transit I usually tell stories from my interstate travels but this time I’ll be telling from inside town errands. Since I moved to this city, I have been privileged to take buses and cabs and tricycles to my different destinations as opposed to when I used to be either driven around or drive around by myself. It’s not been an all-jolly ride but I’m paying my dues humbly. Unto today’s gist; I boarded a bus from point A to B which has a fixed cost of ₦ X. As the journey proceeded, the driver had to pick people along the road going towards our direction. One thing he kept hammering on, whenever he picked a passenger was the price ( ₦ X). As much as I mind my business a lot, my ears are always picking up both useful and useless information from my environment. That is how I heard him tell a pair of girls that joined in our journey, the price. What I don’t know is, if they heard or not. So fast forward to when the girls were close to alig...

Attending a Festival ALONE? How much fun is that?

Not every time, “Honey take me out na, let’s go for that festival.” “Baby, when last did you take me out?” or Girls’ trip! Boys’ trip! Sometimes take yourself out; go out alone. Reasons why;   It affords you the liberty of doing what you want to do without considering another person’s idiosyncrasies. You’ll have the opportunity to meet new people and spontaneously try new things. It gives you the chance to be independent and enjoy your own company. It’s like walking into a strange beautiful room with blindfolds on….not a dangerous room biko…. there are possibilities of the unexpected which is what life is generally about. It would teach you to stand on your own and be comfortable with your decision and watch the outcomes unfold. This is not really just about a festival. It’s about your life. It can be therapeutic. Can help you find yourself too, in case you are the type that is easily knowingly or unknowingly influenced by your surrounding (friend...

Tips on how to ACTUALLY go on that Trip

Firstofust, let’s talk about why you need that trip. The bible says meat is made for the body not vice versa. What does this mean? You are not here to serve life but here for life to serve you so stop working like a donkey and take that relaxation trip already. “drops mic” “Picks mic back up” For those that really truly want to vacation this year, here’s how First off, are you going alone or with your crew? Go alone if you don’t have crew. If you have crew, hope it’s the crew that you can be yourself with and not the one that y’all are struggling to impress the other. Secondly, what are your incomes like? Don’t go and cut your neck or do unscrupulous things because you must travel to Santorini Island this year. Advice for free; don’t save more than 20% of your monthly income for this proposed trip. Based on the above, choose a destination Let’s assume we are choosing Cape Verde, since that’s the trending vacation spot and it doesn’t require a visa to visit. Give...
